Philharmonic Rise, Liverpool

This project involves the extensive refurbishment and restoration of 23 Georgian townhouses in The Canning Conservation Area of Liverpool City Centre.

The houses are 4 and 5 bedroom luxury Georgian townhouses situated on one of Liverpool's few remaining cobbled streets. The houses had previously been turned into student accommodation. The project will turn them back to individual townhouses each with their own front door and a generous private garden at the rear.

HL Engineers were able to provide their extensive experience designing modifications and structural repairs for refurbishment and conservation projects to minimize cost risk on this scheme. For conservation schemes our approach aims to minimize structural intervention work and  retain existing structure wherever possible and for this project we were able to retain the aesthetic Georgian features such as the facing stone lintels and bay windows.

Many of the houses had deteriorated considerably internally but HL engineers were able to apply a "light louch" approach which provided viable structural resolutions whilst retaining the existing structure and reducing costs for out client. Eight of the houses are currently complete and occupied with work under way on the reaming houses with many of them on the market.
