Gresham Road, Brixton

HL were the appointed civil and structural engineer for this new-build residential development on the site of the former Brixton Mosque.

 

The project provides six 2-bedroom flats arranged over the ground and first floor levels. A 3-bedroom penthouse is located at second floor level.

 

The building is generally constructed from load-bearing masonry with precast concrete floors. At second floor level the penthouse structure was inboard of the main vertical load-bearing elements, to enable the construction of an external terrace.

 

The penthouse was designed as a lightweight timber frame to reduce the need for an expensive transfer structure at the second floor.
