Former Clapham Police Station, South West London

HL were appointed civil and structural engineers for this part-refurbishment, part-new-build residential development in South-West London.

The project includes the refurbishment and restoration of the former Clapham Police Station, and the construction of a new four-storey steel framed building within the grounds of the existing building.

The project provides sixteen flats within the existing building and four 3-bed flats within the new-build steel frame.

A requirement to link the finished levels of the new and existing buildings led to the design of concrete floors which are supported on the bottom flange of the steel floor beams. This solution minimised the overall depth of the new structure.
