Urmston Leisure Centre, Greater Manchester

HL were appointed as the civil and structural engineer for this project to extensively refurbish and extend Urmston Leisure Centre. The new community facility provides a state of the art 100 station fitness suite, group exercise studios, café & soft play and a clip-and-climb wall. 

The structural design of the extension was constrained by the requirement to connect to the existing 1990's building, which was  partially demolished before a new steel frame was constructed to the front and within the existing footprint.

Working with the project acoustician, HL completed an advanced footfall analysis for the proposed fitness suite structure to ensure that vibrations of the long span steel structure were within acceptable levels.

In addition to the structural design, HL completed the design of S278 highway works and new car parking.

The project is now complete and open to the public.
