Allerton Police Station, Liverpool

HL were appointed as the Structural and Civil engineers to renovate the existing fire station to build shared seven homes and an independent living scheme for over 55's within the defunct police station, creating 40 apartments for affordable rent.

The scheme involves partial demolition of existing structures on site with a full refurbishment and usage change to the entire of the fire and police stations. There are also major structural modifications to change the existing layouts of the buildings to suit proposed apartment layouts.

Structural works to the existing loadbearing masonry frame involve removal of partitions and complete renewal of the second floor level and roof level with a new structural timber frame constructed in-situ.

HL worked closely with the Architect and Client to determine the optimum balance between demolition and repurposing the existing structures.

The project is currently on site.
