Basildon Youth Zone

HL were appointed as the Civil and Structural Engineer to deliver the design for this new purpose built Youth Zone for the young people of Basildon.

The new building is based on the model developed by charity Onside Youth Zones and includes a sportshall ,boxing gym, MUGA pitch, dance studio and gymnasium amongst other facilities.

The building has been designed as a steel frame with RC slabs on metal deck at first floor. Due to the poor ground conditions and the potential of clay heave, the ground floor is built from precast floors supported off dwarf walls, with a void beneath the floor level.

The building features a large span overhanging roof at first floor, supported by Architectural feature columns along its main elevation. This required close coordination with the Architect to agree on structural form and thermal break considerations.

The project is currently at tender stage.
